Scott Dow, Senior Associate

Raised in the Boston, Massachusetts area, Scott has been a Southerner by choice since 1986, and has a keen appreciation for the historic preservation value of Charleston’s finest older homes and commercial buildings. This appreciation for lasting quality and skilled attention to detail, makes Dow, Inc. and Scott Dow projects building code superior. Lasting quality truly is the core value, foundation and goal of Visual Consulting, LLC.

A private pilot with a passion for flying, and as a complement to his business model and for pure pleasure, Scott is a licensed pilot with two aircraft partially dedicated to a regional charter group. Frequently Scott flies clients and professional associates (engineers, architects, and attorneys) to locations where his construction and consulting services are needed.

Community Involvement & Personal Interests

For many years Scott has been actively involved in and has supported the efforts of the Low Country March of Dimes, Habitat for Humanity, Birds of Prey, Medical University Of South Carolina, Charleston Intercity Revitalization renovating 13 low income homes on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, a member of the Hibernian Society, Norwich Universit, the Military College of Vermont, the Partridge Society, on the Board of NUCLEUS since 2005 and Founder and Executive Director of Patriots of the Lowcountry, a project that supported wounded veterans.

William McGill Woodward, Jr. "Woody" - Senior Associate

Bill Woodward is a native Charlestonian who is spent a majority of his life in the lowcountry. He is a graduate of The Citadel class of 1991 with a BS in Business Administration. After graduating, he was commissioned in The United States Army. He spent three years in the Army including one year in the Republic of Korea, he is a graduate of US Army Airborne Training, Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Field Artillery Target Acquisition and Survey and Northern Warfare Training.

After the Army, Bill began his career in construction. He began as a plumbing manager for a large mechanical subcontractor and began his background in plumbing, HVAC and electrical. In 1996, he opened his own construction company building homes in Greenville, SC and Charleston. In 2000, he became partner in a development company and developed a 97 lot subdivision on James Island. After 2008, he began work in commercial construction building new structural steel offices and retail space and acted as assistant project manager on post-tension structures such as hotels. He has extensive experience in commercial interiors projects, commercial structures, residential development and construction.

Bill has an unlimited general contractor’s license in the State of South Carolina, he has also had a SC homebuilders’ license and a SC real estate license. Bill joined the Visual Consulting team in 2015. His passion for and knowledge of residential and commercial construction are vital to serving our customers’ needs. Bill recently became a certified Level II building envelope consultant from the Building Envelope Science Institute, Inc.

Bill happily lives on James Island with his wife, Kristen of 20+ years, his son, McGill (17) and his daughter Susanna (14). He is currently serving as past president and current board member of The Stray Dog Society, a non-profit organization supporting The Citadel.


John P. Nance - Senior Associate

John is a Charleston, S. C. native and attended The Military College of South Carolina (The Citadel), where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation from The Citadel, John was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. After one year of training as a Combat Engineer, John volunteered to deploy to Vietnam where he served for 13 months and was awarded the Bronze Star.

John returned to Charleston and, after completing his Engineer in Training period with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, decided to pursue a career in commercial construction. After working with a local Charleston contractor for seven years, he was offered a project manager’s position with a large construction firm in Atlanta, G. A. For the next 20 years, John worked for three large commercial construction firms, the largest being Skanska, Inc. based in Atlanta, G. A.

During this time, John held positions from Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Project Executive and finally Vice President for Healthcare Construction Operations. In 2006, John returned to Charleston as Senior Vice President for Charleston Operations for Hogan Construction. In 2012, John created Atlantic Construction Management, LLC; An agency Construction Management Consulting firm specializing in Pre-Construction Budgeting, Scheduling and Owner Agency for new construction.

John joined the Visual Consulting LLC team in 2014 bringing his extensive commercial construction experience, knowledge and desire to develop customer relations and protect his clients from pitfalls that are an all-too-common occurrence in construction today.
